Mulberry Tree

I have recently bought a mulberry tree about eight feet tall. It requires a south facing wall to give it protection.Does anyone know how close to the wall I can risk planting it without endangering the foundations ?

  • @Dave115 why does it need a south facing wall? I know of several mulberry trees that are nowhere near a wall and crop beautifully (one of them in my garden).

Well, I've searched 'mulberry tree south facing wall' and find such advice e.g. here:

From my experience this is not a requirement however.

Up in Aberdour I'd try and provide shelter form winds off the hills or the North sea but down here in the Vendée I am growing mine as a specimen tho I may also try an espalier form.   I have babies sown from RHS seeds spring before last so a way to go yet.
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.
