Acer pruning

Another word of caution. Cherry plums don't take kindly to being pruned we have found. They tend to react by throwing up long straight 'water shoots' which makes the tree look worse and if you try to shorten it by lopping off the top, it looks even worse. Been there, done that!  Some also got silver leaf and died because we pruned them in winter.

I usually give it a light prune about twice a year but missed the second one last year.  Ive never heard of water shoots before. I'll watch out for that @Lizzie27

I've been doing a bit of gardeningtoday and noticed that even last year's marguerites still have the odd flower . They ought to be dead! We've had only one light frost this year. Is it still OK to prune the acer soon as advised further up the thread?

I'd suggest pruning just one branch and have a look tomorrow to see if it's dripping sap and take it from there.
When I pruned mine in Jan last year - also a warm winter - it bled for weeks as I mentioned previously.
    Fingers crossed for you
