Small tree ideas for memorial

Hi, I would like to plant a small tree in memory of my mum. I have 2 location options, 1 is planting it in a 3ft square patch of soil in a shady north facing driveway where a large Bush once was, it's a couple metres from the house so nothing that would harm the drive or grow too big, it would be good to use as a slight privacy screen too. 
My second location option is along a metre wide border next to a boundary fence on the east side of a south facing garden (good afternoon sun). I love weeping trees and lots of flowers, white or pink if possible, cherry blossom or weeping standard rose were some ideas I had, whatever I get it will be very special to me so I need to make the right decision, any suggestions or guidance would be appreciated.

    Hello and welcome to the forum  :)
    That is a lovely idea to plant a tree in your mum's memory.  My usual suggestion for a tree is Amelanchier. This will give you blossom in the Spring, berries for the birds in the summer and good autumn leaf colour . Some info here

    That Amelanchier grows extremely big and prefers full sun,  I don’t think a metre from a fence gives it enough room,  mine are huge now after only a few years. At their minimum they’re 4Mts wide, then more. 
     I wonder if a Rowan would be better.

    Fair point @Lyn :)  What about Prunus incisa "Kojo no mai" ?

    I have several beautiful, compact weeping ornamental cherries so that may be a good option, but sorry, don’t know the cultivar as I inherited them with the garden. I have just planted a Malus Evereste crab apple for it’s spring blossom and lovely ornamental fruit... plus you can make crab apple jelly.

    Thanks for taking the time to comment, I think maybe something with fruit or berries might not be suitable, we have greedy dogs that might eat them and if it were to go outside the front it would be on route to the front door where they are likely to drop and I wouldn't want the kids traipsing them into the porch 🤔

    Amelanchier berries are eaten so quickly by the blackbirds they don’t have time to drop 😆 

    Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
