Standard to multi stem Amelanchier

Hi, I've got a 7 foot Amelanchier Cadensis that I bought 2 years old and planted a year ago. It's in the wrong spot really because it blocks a lot of light. Rather than get rid I was wondering if I could get it smaller and bushier and maybe multi stem, did this with a eucalyptus successfully with an aggressive chop, would the same work for this one? Thanks.

This information page on amelanchier canadensis says it has a multi-stemmed growth habit so that would suggest to me what you suggest should work. I have an amelanchier lamarkii which is closely related and it has produced a number of suckers from the base of the main trunk that I have had to dig up and transplant to elsewhere in the garden as I actually want it to grow as a tree. I also have the related amelanchier spicata that is multi-stemmed. Here is a clip of how the three varieties looked last time they flowered.
