What shrub is this no 1

Can anyone tell what shrub this is? I pruned almost back to the wood about two years ago and got loads of yellow flowers. I did the same last year and got no flowers. How /when should I prune?

    Have you got any closer pictures of the leaves ? it favour a Santolina Chamaecyparissus . I don't grow it but I believe its trimmed after its finished flowering.

    I'll get a better picture of the leaves but looking at pictures on Google I think you are right

    I agree on Santolina (particularly if the leaves have a distinct smell when you touch/crush them).  I prune mine quite hard every year as soon as the flowers turn brown, so it grows a neat mound of fresh foliage before winter comes, and flowers again the following summer.
    Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained

    The smell is very distinctive. Do  you think I should wait till spring to cut it back?

    Ditto above. I have an old plant which I prune hard each year when the flowers have finished. It looks a bit sorry for itself for a few weeks but soon new growth start which is unaffected by winter weather. If you prune your plant in the Spring you will remove the flowering growth.
