Sowing in January, should I?

  Do most people like broad beans?  Can they be planted when you plant onions and potatoes?

  Like with a lot vegetables and food generally broad beans are liked by some and others not. I personally like them, they are sweeter and milder earlier on and have slightly bitter taste later. I like both.
  
   As for growing they are easy and carefree, may need a touch of support in high winds but that aside I've found you leave them,I don't even water them. The bees like their flowers too.
