    Wet acer
    In London. Keen but lazy.
  • @strelitzia32 the grass in that picture is Miscanthus sinensis 'Gracillimus'

There is also panicum in there which is the finer seed head.
I'm a bit of a fan of grasses. There are a few different types dotted through the boarders and anywhere else i can cram them in!
Thank you  :) I interplanted with verbena bonariensis but doesn't really show in the pictures.  I thought monty should have used these in his paradise garden as the grass he used flopped over.   ;)
@KeenOnGreen, I can understand why you miss the colours of your past years boarders but Gardens change with our needs for them and what you have done this year looks stunning and stylish!
Monty should have opted for Stipa pseudo ichu with the verbena, rather than Stipa tenuissima (Nasella tenuissima) which has a terrible habit of clumping together when it's in flower and gets wet. However, the chief problem is his soil is too heavy for most stipas. I was fortunate to be one of the Wisley Stipa trial forum member a number of years ago.

Gaura is another good partner for verbena.

If the verbena bonariensis is too tall you could look at Verbena 'Lollipop' as an understory to a taller grass, reversing the look Monty's paradise garden has.

Finally, if you love grasses Knoll Gardens and The Plantsman's Preference are good suppliers. Both Neil Lucas and Tim Fuller were involved with the above mentioned trial.

I don't get this "hate" for stipa tenuissima. Here, it doesn't flop (probably because of my poor sandy soil, it doesn't grow as tall) and looks good 95% of the time (in our very rainy and windy weather). I googled s. pseudo ichu but it doesn't have that tenuissima look. (On the other hand, I seriously dislike miscanthus... so I guess we all have different likes and dislikes).
  • @KeenOnGreen Is it just me or is that topiary shape a bit risque?
  • That’s gorgeous, @Yviestevie.

Hmmm @rachelQrtJHBjb  I have on occasion wondered if that bit of topiary was a bit suggestive.  It’s all totally subconscious!

@Papajo What's your opinion on the Aronia ? I've been looking at this exact variety for a few years just nowhere to plant one. I can see its autumn colours coming . Does it flower well and how vigorous is it ? I can't see any berries on yours have the birds nicked them or have you picked them.
