@pitter-patter What's the red blade-leafed plant in the first photo, it's a stunning colour?  Looks like it could be a Phormium, or perhaps Japanese blood grass.

  • @KeenOnGreen It is Imperata Cylindrica, Japanese blood grass.

Hi @pitter-patter - can I ask what the red leaves are?

  • Hi, @Fire. It is Imperata Cylindrica, Japanese blood grass. I hope it will survive the winter. I have it in various places around the garden.

Thanks @pitter-patter. I’ve always loved it but never had any success with it.

@Daithi29  Anemanthele lessoniana might be better with Verbena (it has a gentle, transparent, arching habit, but that’s just my personal preference for that combination).  Hakonechloa and Hosta would make a lovely combination, plus both do better in shade.

My The President  clematis flowered in May and started re flowering last month, as this is its second summer I dont know if this is usual or not  but it didn't last year.

  • Thanks for the info @KeenOnGreen
Hakonechloa macra Aureola looks lovely, but would it work in full sun?

@Hostafan1 any suggestions for a full sun hosta that doesnt grow too big for in front of the waterfall to go with the grasses?

Might have to forego the verbena and just try the grass and hosta for the moment until I get a bitter feel for it.

@Daithi29  We have our Hakonechloa in full sun and it’s fine.  Just takes a bit more watering.

There is still good autumn colour in the garden, though the dahlias are winding down.

Clematis Freckles - first year flowering. All a bit ... thin. Growing over an arch so you can see the inside of the flowers. It seems to have been trying to flower all year.

Our amelanchier ... glorious in the pouring rain.
