Best website for advice on plant care

If you know what plant you want/have, what is the best website for looking up care details? Particularly watering, pruning, fertilising etc.


Best website for plant identification? I have been successful asking this forum!

    RHS website is good

    In London. Keen but lazy.

    I have been using the RHS but some of the plants aren't there

    If the RHS doesn't list it - and there are some holes in their database - then Google often comes up with the goods or you can ask on here and get the benefit of personal experience.

    I don't use the RHS site for plant care as it's too narrow-minded. They don't give enough information on timings or methods, just list their suggestions as gospel.  

    I'd go for good facebook groups, or forums like this, over the RHS any day.

    The expertise on this forum for plant ID and care is unparalleled imo. Advice can be tailored to your particular location, aspect, climate, soil, etc., which is so much better than what you get on plant databases, which, by their nature can only give broad, average info.

    I don't like the RHS site as it tries to cover all bases so as not to get criticised. It will say a plant grows in all seasons because it might somewhere in the country and it will take part shade and shade and full sun because it might. It likes clay, chalk, sand and loam. Might be evergreen or not. It is indeed a tough job to try to be definitive. I like good or specialist plant growers' instructions. Wootens, David Austin, Dorset Perennials, Thorncroft. And usually I come here. The forum's database of questions and answers via the search function is huge. The pictures, the discussions, the experts in particular plants - invaluable.

    Regulars here do have the habit of answering questions you didn't ask and avoiding your actual question all together - but apart from that, it's good.
