My water butt has a tap which screws in. Just wondered if after emptying and scrubbing etc the tap could be unscrewed to allow crud to escape with a bit of swilling around inside.Tap can then be screwed back on. The tap hole is above the base but it may work a bit like a plug hole?

The trouble with that is the plastic surround will be worn away a little bit each time you unscrew the tap I think and then you run the risk of it leaking?
I've never cleaned out any of our butts - too much faff and they're nearly as tall as me! So far, we've only got one smelly one (totally immoveable) which I'm going to try Citrox on. Found out it had holes in the lid (why?) and suspect snails/slugs/other nasties have fallen in.
Thanks for the title @Sheila75 it made me have a little giggle. Hope your butt smells like roses after all the great advice 😂 I need to reinstall mine so will keep it in mind too.
