Happy New Year folks, thanks for your help and advice last year. I am now wondering what to plant in between a new bed of Shrub Roses that I planted out as bare roots in November. I would like something to stop my blasted cats from digging between them! There are 14 roses in the bed which is 6 ft by 12 ft. ( this bed is netted at the moment but I will take that away in the Spring) I was thinking that Lavender might be good but any suggestions please?

    I have a bed of deep red roses and I grow verbena rigida underneath them and v. bonariensis pops up here and there which grows a bit above them
    Lavender also works well if you have the right conditions

    I found that a roll of brown plastic mesh fencing, cut to fit the space and pegged down with metal tent pegs works best and is unobtrusive if you then lightly cover it with a thin layer of compost/bark mulch. I've put it down over all my bark mulch paths. Cats don't like digging through that so they mostly stay off.
