We have Clematis ‘Freckles’ on a H6’ x W10’ trellis partition in a shady west-facing corner (around the bin store). It’s covered the partition perfectly but hasn’t romped all over the place.
My fence faces south, it is not set in concrete, but like most plants you can be in control, just keep it under control,
sounds perfect then. would an arrangement of evergreen honeysuckle,
jasmine/chinese jasmine, clematis freckles and pyracantha/dogrose, all
planted in the rose beds (each separated by 5ft of concrete + bamboo screening) work well? it's in order of distance from the house - honeysuckle and jasmine the closest for scent and looks, clematis and pyracantha further away as they're for the bees and birds.
here are some photos of what I have to work with; the daylight pic was taken 1 year ago in september and the night pic just now.
the bamboo would only be in-between the flowerbeds, trellis on the flowerbeds. as you can see the roses are either spaced far apart in pairs or are single. only 6 total (one's in the bed cut-off in this photo). so one or two(?) evergreen honeysuckle planted between roses 1 & 2. jasmine planted next to rose 3. clematis planted on the right of rose 4. pyracantha/dogrose planted in-between rose 5 & 6.
this is what the soil looks like currently, the white is possibly plaster of paris from diy work. it's 40-50cm deep (possibly more) and likely clay.
haha it does look bad but when the entire screening was up and garden tidied up it was much better looking. unfortunately the fence behind is only 1m tall and rotten so we had to remove the screening pretty sure we're the only house with that type of neighbour's fence on our street. will be putting 5x6 trellis with concrete posts in the rosebeds so that should be plenty strong as long as I keep them in check.
actually I have one more possibly stupid question. how many climbers in each bed should I plant? two pots per bed? based on the species previously mentioned.
@peroroncino I'm struggling to work out from the photos the distance between the roses, it doesn't look at first glance that there will be enough room between them for anything else at all. Roses are very greedy feeders and need plenty of water - they don't like much competition from other plants.

roughly 1m between each rose that is in a pair, and approx. 30cm from the back and front borders. I didn't know they were that competitive, back in the 2018 heatwave they did surprisingly well without any watering :S
