Good to see you MU, but it’s not been a nice birthday & Christmas for you this year. Hope you get to enjoy Hogmanay a little more. You’ve done a grand job with Millicent’s house - I just love the miniature sliced gala pie and other food items (quelle surprise...)
Joyce - poor you having nightmares about us breaking down on the way north. We didn’t - but the traffic was horrendous.
We met BIL at Peterborough to swap the inlaws from one car to another and it took both of us (him coming south and us going north) the best part of 3 hours. We can usually do the whole journey to Yorkshire in that time!
Had to do option C of the cross-country routes so drove across the fens. So many fields under water. Poor farmers. They can’t get on with heavy machinery so they’re behind with harvest, can’t plough and can’t sow new crops. There will be home grown veg shortages this year.
Not looking forward to this Friday as we have a funeral on the ‘wrong’ side of the M25. If we come home Fri evening we’ll be on it at rush hour. Giving serious consideration to a Premier Inn.
Rubee - sorry to hear about your fall. Hope you’re ok.
Who was talking about Morse? Still enjoy watching the odd one or two. Yes a bit dated - but so am I😁. Have tried and tried to watch Vera because I love Northumberland but find it really hard to get into it. Have been bingeing on Call the Midwife on iPlayer this weekend.
Right - must get on with some unmentionables today. Spent the weekend recovering from entertaining and getting rid of the turkey. Nice little free range bird. Cost £30 which seemed a lot for a small one but it’s yielded 4 portions of hot roast, 4 portions of cold, 8 portions of curry and 8 servings of broth so quite economical really and the freezer now looks satisfyingly full.
Enjoy your Monday 👋
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
MU the house and contents are absolutely fabulous. Such attention to detail and the miniature dolls house, the mini mad hatter and all the food, the furniture, absolutely excellent. I had a toast to Tommy Potter and Ed and memories of our furry friends. They bring us so much. Debs deep breaths and I hope you and your sister will be okay. It’s an emotional time for you both. LB enjoy your shopping trip I hope you find a bargain or two. Topbird sorry to hear someone has passed. When my great uncle died there was a lovely funeral at his church a real celebration of his life very touching. I used Togo walking with him when I was younger and he took me to visit my Great Uncle Jeffrey who had been a missionary and his lovely wife Peggy. I enjoyed the day immensely and have fond memories of the time. A hazel it’s sunny here today too and I hope you find your book or one like it. Chive you will be enjoying your break from school and spending time with the family. I wish you a good day.
Good morning all. It's very dark here and the three bird feeders have lots of birds on them.....is weather trouble ahead?
T'bird, the farmers in your area have had a very bad year weatherwise. Pleased to hear you didn't break down on your journey. An overnight stay before/after the funeral seems a sensible idea.
Rubee, poor you. I hope you haven't hurt yourself too badly. Take care.
Good luck to those of you looking for sale bargains.
Nearly afties all. Smug face here as I have just been to the recycling centre and got rid of loads of junk including old, duff electrical stuff and solar lights - which I have decided are just not worth the effort. These were defunct anyway but I will not be buying more. If I could guarantee some sun on a regular basis then I can see their usefulness for highlighting a tree in the garden at night.
I did call in at the GC and bought a little house plant with my birthday voucher. I only had to pay an extra 0.50p so that was a bargain. When I got home I decided to fill the back garden bird feeders - a job that I always do on the back door step - and I had the most magical experience. A little robin came right up to the step. He/she had obviously recognised the feeders and was nipping in for a sneaky snack. Made my morning.
Its too wet underfoot for me to do anything productive in the garden today but I've checked the greenhouse and all is OK in there.
T'Bird that doesn't sound very good for the fen farmers and knowing what my garden is like I can quite see how disastrous it would be to try to get heavy machinery onto ground like that. I'm impressed with all those meals you have made from your turkey. Bargain!
To all the people I've missed saying 'morning' to since I got up and signed in, consider it done now.
Cacoethes: An irresistible urge to do something inadvisable
LBim glad you managed to pick up a bargain. It’s always enjoyable to watch them grow. I went for a walk today to get some more fresh air then I had some h#######k to do.
