Holly tree

I have a beautiful holly tree in my garden that to our delight, covers its self in red berries every Christmas, this summer it began to weep a black liquid from a hole in the trunk. It looks weak and I'm afraid it might die. Could someone tell me what is going on and how I can treat it. I would  be very grateful because I trully enjoy my tree and would be sad to see it go!

    Hi @adilia.pss - do you have a photo showing the damage and the whole tree?
    Unfortunately, a hole with something seeping from it is usually not good news.
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....



    I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

    It sounds like a fungal infection, probably due to the amount of rain we have had this year. Many plants have suffered, and it may not be possible to save your plant unfortunately.
