Penstemon cuttings

Hello, about 3 weeks ago I took some penstemon cuttings from 4 different varieties. All were taken using the same method (monty don on gardeners world!) and placed into specialist cutting compost, but now I’ve had some wild and die off (see attached pic) while other seem to have struck. Is there anything I’ve done wrong or is it just down to luck?

I've done similar in the past and if you have over 50% success rate I'd say you're doing really well. Well done, they look great.

"3 weeks ago" is very late to take cuttings as growth has virtually ceased at this time of year. Keep the slightly on the drier side of moist and just wait and see.

Certainly Monty Don advises taking penstemon cuttings in early August here

Took our cuttings back in October, they are doing well, covered by a plastic dome in the glasshouse, penstemons in the garden still in flower
