Gorgeous, very much to my taste.

Oriental poppies--I know. You need lightish soil, or they rot off underground. Only some varieties are worth growing, particularly ones that have lasted the test of time. Put something like Geranium 'Rozanne' nearby, then it can ramble over the spot as the poppy leaves die down. Go for one colour only. Good varieties in my experience are 'Cedric Morris'--not such a pure white as 'Royal Wedding' but a 'good doer'; 'Goliath' which appears in two forms, the best being the one you can get from Great Dixter; I keep wanting to try 'Karine' but I was sent 'Watermelon' instead, which was actually really beautiful (but it died after two years).

I like the look of Cedric Morris - I might give that a try, thank you @Cambridgerose12 .
  • Actually 3 plants did well in my garden and I enjoyed their colour variations that might not be every one’s choice

    Crocosmia George Davison
    Lobelia Tania’s Sister
    Agapanthus North Star

Pretty horrific Steve 😁 The colour on the lobelia is amazing though.  Is that lobelia cardinalis?  Mine got  destroyed by slugs 😢

    Hi

its Lobelia Tania’s Sister that has a burgundy foliage with a beautiful magenta flower. It holds its shape with out any real support. Very hardy and very easy to propagate by division in early spring. One of the best perennial Lobelia’s I have.
Surprisingly, the slugs seem to leave it alone in my garden

I have a few perennial Lobelias and they all do well, except Lobelia Queen Victoria, which I have given up on, as it always gets destroyed by slugs.

Ditto, I've got Hadspen Purple which is similar to @Stevedaylilly 's variety. Never touched by slugs

I've the same combo Lobelia Tanna sister and Tanna with george davison crocosmia but they don't look anywhere near as good as Steve. Also have lobelia Q Vic in the same bed which is no more , slugs don't touch my hadspen purple and don't bother with Tupa to much as well.
