Are splotchy leaves a sign of a problem?

Hello,

Some of the leaves on my Arelia plant have light green splotches on them. These leaves feel a little stiffer than the leaves that are a solid green. Is this normal, or is this a symptom of an issue with the plant?

    It may be a symptom of your scale insect problem as they sap nutrients from their host plants but it may also be a result of fluctuations in room temperature from cold to warm and back again.   

    Make sure your plant is in good light, has a reasonably steady temperature and is not in a draught, that its growing medium/compost is moist but not soggy and that you mist it each day to provide humidity for the foliage.
