I did some last minute cuttings the week before we moved here so September 2016 - just used a loamy compost in terracotta pots and poked pencil sized stems around the edge and watered them then let them drain.    Kept them in a sheltered spot out fo full sun and a third took.

I have just done some 2 or 3 weeks ago and took pencil sized cuttings which I heeled into slits made in a bed in the veggie plot.   Will have to wait and see how that goes.

  • I often do what @Obelixx suggests in the 2nd half of her post and shove the cutting next to the mother plant (out of laziness). I find at least 1-2 survive the winter and the ones that haven’t go black and dry! By late spring/summer, I move/grow the rooted cuttings to a pot.

Not sure if it’s me, but I find some roses repeatedly strike, whilst few are very rude... good luck with yours.

I've done it several times with a good success rate, pretty much as described in Obelixx's link. I do them in long pots of compost mixed with perlite, no rooting hormone, and leave them in a sheltered corner for as long as possible. Good luck :)
