Bulbs and corms being eaten by squirrels and mice

Has anyone tried dipping bulbs and corms in methylated spirits to stop them being eaten?  Not sure how eco friendly meths is to the soil?  Any ideas please?

Not friendly at all I would think.
I'm afraid it's par for the course with small bulbs unless you cover them.  Squirrels only dig so far, so it's the little bulbs which they tend to get. Chicken wire can be useful.
I don't lose many to mice, because the mice eat the bird food.  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
