Anybody know what this purple-pink'sh shrub is ?

When I moved into my home 10 years ago, my back garden was mostly bare earth, except for this shrub. I've still no idea what it is. Can anyone offer suggestions ? Thanks.

    It's not looking very happy, so you may need to look at the ongoing care of it if you're keeping it  :)

    Likes acidic soil if it is a heather.

    It depends on the heather.  There are Ericas and Callunas, and they take different soil types. Heather is just a general term to describe all of them  :)
    The ericas [heaths] will withstand alkaline soil, the callunas [ling] are the ones people usually think of when the word heather is used. They're the ones which prefer neutral to acidic soil.
    The white flowering winter ericas is a lovely plant  :)
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

    IMHO ,I'd have it out and replace with something else. Another heather if you like them, but I'd say that one isn't worth the fuss of resurrecting. ( Unless you relish a challenge?)
