black hairy growth on my hosta which is dying back as they all are. Help please. Thanks Taffy.

Hostas die down and disappear for the winter so that is normal.
Im afraid the photo is too fuzzy and out of focus to ID the black fuzzy stuff.
Any chance of a better picture?
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

Looks like a mycelium fungus coming on top of the soil. Quite common this time of year.
