How much soil do tulips require below?

    I think, eventually, the roots will mainly do what roots do - some will poke out through the holes, and some will just go round and round in the pot, assuming they get to any kind of size.
    Bulb roots don't really get as wayward and far reaching as other plants though, and their roots are rarely going to get huge, in the way shrubs and perennial roots do. 
    I'll keep an eye on the Q. of N ones to see how they perform- or if they perform. It's a miracle there were any of them still flowering at all last year though.   ;)
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

    Yes most of the bulb roots I've seen grow pretty straight and about an inch or so long.  Are the q. of n typically not perrenial? I've had many tulips return a following year though some had fire, and were a mangled mess lol. Definitely will get some species types next year.
