Standard Michaelmas Daisies

Hello - How do I prune a standard maugarite daisy? and when?

    I've never heard of a michaelmas daisy being grown as a standard, but the flowering stems of the ones grown in borders are normally cut right back to the ground after flowering has finished.  Mine grow to 1m or more high each year.
    A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

    No instructions that I can see but it's not a Michaelmas daisy which is a hardy perennial.  It's a marguerite from the Canary Islands so needs to be kept frost free and preferably above 5C for the winter.

    The RHS says it's best to prune it in late winter/early spring so for now, just keep dead heading and then tidy up the pompom shape next spring.   Keep it sheltered till well after the last frosts next spring then, refresh the compost and start a weekly liquid feed as well as the usual watering from next spring.

    "Easy to keep year after year, simply trim over when the season is done and bring in doors to a cool bright room. This plant will thrive in full sun and moist well drained compost."

    Well Doh!!  I'm using my cold as an excuse then.

    Oh has it too and is a couple of days behind and feeling very sorry for himslef.  Thinks we need a break.   Reminded him we haven't had a cold in the 3 years we've been here and can't plan to go anywhere till we know what Possum will be doing next year after she graduates as we'll need to organise house-sitters if she stays in Belgium.........
