Moving a Lycesteria.

Hi all, I have a mature Lycesteria in my garden that was superb this year. Over the last few months I have been re-designing my garden and now I would like to re-position my Lycesteria. Would it do any damage to the plant to carefully up root it and place it elsewhere in the garden?

I'm sure it would be fine. You might want to have a bit of a prune, I think with Leycesteria this is more about removing older or straggly stems right to the base to improve the overall shape and open it up, rather than trimming.

  • Thanks for that. At the present moment the shrub is in a shaded part of the garden facing east. I want to put it in an sunnier position facing west. Good or bad idea?

They prefer semi shade, but a west position with a bit more sun will just mean they flower faster and die back earlier. Not always ideal if it's a shrub and you want to see its interest for a bit longer.
