Starting off alliums and glads in pots

If I did that, would I then be able to transplant them in the ground in the spring? Would they transplant ok? The bulbs are coming soonish, but the ground where I want to put them is a new bed, not dug yet. I’m waiting for more rain so the ground is more workable. They are Gladiolus The Bride and Allium Atropurpureum.

In fact I am wondering if the alliums might be better in pots sunk into the ground anyway, since the last lot I had disappeared without trace...

Any advice? Thanks.

    Last year, I bought alliums in pots in March, planted them in early April and they flowered well in May.

    I'd say yes - no bother.  :)
    Squirrels often take the wee bulbs in the ground, so it's sometimes good to have them in pots first. I sometimes have those little Acidantheras, and need to protect them from the weather over winter. It works well.
    The little Sphaero alliums are the same - don't need protecting, but if you have a bundle, they can go in a pot and get put in later. 
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
