They'll probably just settle down for winter @cassie.a.stewart. It's always a bit tricky with sowing in autumn, for the reasons fidget and Dove have said.
If you get your coldframe done, remember to keep a little bit of ventilation going too, and keep an eye on them in spring once things warm up a bit. The fluctuating temps can cause a wee bit of hit and miss growth, so it's a case of keeping them on an even keel until they're sturdy enough to go out through the day and in at night, and then planted out.
If they're just the cotyledons will they be ok settling down for winter though?

Do you think I should line the inside of coldframe with fleece?

    Thats great advice thank you.

Ah - I thought they were a bit further on than that. Wait until they're a reasonable size with a wee root system on them.
You might need to bring them indoors to get them to that stage though, so perhaps best to leave them to grow on slowly where they are.
You could always try sowing a few more indoors, and then see how they get on, and then gradually get them into the cold frame. It's a bit late in the year though, so might be better waiting until spring for that. It becomes almost impossible, once they get to a reasonable stage, to make the transition to an outdoor frame/greenhouse going into winter :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Thanks, I may bring a few indoors as an experiment and see how they get on.

I was just being impatient really as I read echinacea dont always flower in the first year so wanted to give them a head start!

Hopefully the roots will keep growing over the next few weeks/month before winter hits.
