It does indeed @Dovefromabove, you have to be strict with it   ;)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Berberis for me, we’ve got it around our oil tank as well.
    Pyracanthas also very good.

We used it near ours at last house too @Lyn. Pyracantha anyway. It was near the entrance gate, so handy if anyone fancied trying to nick any   ;)

Recommended by the police, anything very prickly is good. . @Fairygirl

Chaenomeles cathayensis - bigger and stronger than the usual japanese form with spines that would keep a bear out. Very vicious but gets a bit tall.

I don't get many bears @steephill - although some of the neighbours are a bit dodgy.... :D
    I hadn't thought of Chaenomeles - it's a good shout.
Having been out tidying up round the base of my Mahonia recently - I'm thinking that's an even  better deterrent than Pyracantha  :s

No bears in Scotland, that surprises me,  I haven’t seen one for quite a while, badgers, foxes and deer, perhaps they don’t like the prickly plants.

There's usually a few bears knocking around the town on a Saturday night @Lyn - when they've had a few too many sherberts   ;)

We do have badgers not far away, but there's been some building activity or something going on round that area, so I don't know if they've been disturbed. Might take a look next time I'm going past. I used to see them visiting gardens,  when I went to collect daughter from work on her later nights.
