Hedgehog igloo

  • Great news @Crazyfroglady make sure you put a bowl of water out too. Ours generally spend as much time drinking as they do eating, especially if you are feeding dried food.

We put a pond in at the beginning of the year and my husband saw him/her having a drink out of it the other night. It has REALLY shallow edges and we did that on purpose because we really wanted to attract as much wildlife as possible. 😀

I know just what you mean !
It really is a treat watching him/her on the camera. I keep saying it’s one of the best things he have brought, there’s also quite a few mice that seem to be enjoying the feeding station 😆.
  • We got the igloo installed this afternoon. Looks cozy!

We pegged it down with heavy duty tent pegs and disguised it with twigs, branches and leaves.

We filled it with hey and leaves and positioned it out of the the wind.

We are going to put some more logs on top.
  • Hi
I have been given one of these hedgehog house as a present but have seen a lot of issues with it on Facebook...apparently the hedgehog spines get trapped in the wire that holds construction together
I don't want to use if I am going to harm, any ideas or suggestions, I did wonder if I could line the top with something but not sure if it will be suitable in wet weather

Love it when people find old threads. @Crazyfroglady...and.now.newts.

@Valery Parry , it's not only the construction, it's also the design that can be a problem plus the lack of stability as mentioned on earlier posts.
It's a nice thought but not necessarily the most practical means of giving a hedgehog somewhere to hibernate or sleep during the day. If you do want to encourage hedgehogs into your garden, the British Hedgehog Preservation Society has loads of info including details of hedgehog houses.

i thought same but not sure what to do with it now, would much prefer to make our own as this is first hog we have seen in 14 years of living here and want to make it welcome 😀

I personally made mine from a few bricks stacked up together, some wood on top with another fer bricks over that to stop any foxes from trying to get it. It's been hard wearing, sturdy and great since.
Good luck with your hog :P

@Valery Parry maybe you could turn it upside down and use as some kind of planter ? Not sure if that would work.
