Can Someone Identify This Plant Please.

Hello,

I'm hoping someone can identify this plant.

It's not very well.

It stands about 4' tall and believe it has red flowers in the spring. Prunus ?

Thanks

Chris

It looks very much like a Prunus to me .., possibly a flowering cherry.

Hello chris and welcome to the forum. It certainly looks like a Prunus. I'm just wondering if it could be a grafted variety and the rootstock has sprouted some suckers.
Look for a thickened section near the base of the main stem like this:

Anything that is growing below that thickened area is likely to be a sucker and should be removed. It is a little difficult to see from your picture but that might be something worth looking into.

  • Thanks to you both.

Hello again chris. There do seem to be two distinctly different shaped leaves there but it may be just the plant's growth pattern. It will be dropping its leaves soon and next year you can observe what happens as the new foliage emerges.
