Weed problem, buttercup???

Hi all, 

I have a decent size garden which we're trying to get some control of however this is springing up everywhere. I've had a quick look to see what it could be and it resembles something like a buttercup in my opinion. However, you'll know better, can you take a look please and advise me?? This is it...



I've been kind of dreading asking in case it's something horrific! Please tell me it's not!

    You're right. Easily weedkilled, or dug up if you've lots of time

    Thanks @glasgowdan it's everywhere! We bought a new house, and this seems to be the main weed! The roots seem quite long and like tap roots, does that sound about right? They're taking some digging up!

    I honestly wouldn't dig them up unless they're in amongst food. One spray will sort them out and do no harm to anything else. 5 mins vs hours and hours! I'd probably wait until April or so as it's getting a bit cool and damp for it now.
