Pots Tulips andCompost

The summer plants in pots and containers are dying off and I want to plant the tulip bulbs  Do I need to change the compost, leave it or maybe mix it half and half old and new  ?

I usually mix a bit of new if I do something like that, but technically, the bulbs already have all their nutrition 'in house', so it's not necessary.
I always feel I've given them the best start if I put some new stuff in. If it's a big pot, the old compost means you don't need to add much.
The only thing to make sure of is that the drainage is good - nice free draining soil for them.  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
