That looks good @Guernsey Donkey2 . Just had a look at the birch outside our boundary, it's within 1-2 metres of our privet hedge which we try to keep at 6ft, but wants to be taller. Seems to grow okay. The birch must now be 30-40 ft high, but it's much too close to the house for comfort and the leaves/seeds/debris are a pain all year round.
North East Somerset - Clay soil over limestone
  • We have tall pines trees (almost as tall as the house) growing within 5 metres of the house, and they are a worry when the wind is in an Easterly direction, the gutters fill with pine needles every year too - we have to pay someone to clear the gutters.  Tall trees certainly are a problem in gardens @Lizzie27, thanks for the re-assurance regarding the trees and hedging planted closely together.

What about cornus midwinter fire / other variety and under plant them with a grass like carex evergold / other varitys or liriope gold band + spring bulbs

Cornus and carex like damp soil and in my experience silver birch prefer light free draining soil.
I may be wrong,  but I can’t see them being happy together.
