I guess I shall have to wait and see, but there is a definite pink tinge to the buds, so I wonder if it is this one, Daphne x transatlantica ‘Pink Fragrance’ as the leaves look similar too...

Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
  • I have a dwarf weigela, choisya White dazzler and daphne “Perfume Princess” growing in pots. They all seem to be happy in containers, though all three are still young, so I can only hope that they remain short enough so I can continue growing them in pots (don’t have this much space in my garden 🙁 )
Little weigela had two flashes of flowers this summer - that was lovely, bees were delighted 😁

From what I can subsequently gather from tinternet, @Big Blue Sky, daphnes are not recommended for pots because they like a long, cool root run and they don’t like being re-potted, they also like a humus-rich acid to neutral soil, as much sun in the morning as you can give them to flower well, but afternoon sun should be avoided as it’s then too hot. But... they say some of the smaller cultivars can cope in a pot so long as it’s deep enough and the pot itself is in shade. No wonder they have a reputation for being tricky.

I repotted my little 2L one into a 10L/30cm deep pot in an ericaceous compost/homemade compost/leaf mould mix. A bit of a jump in pot size, but as they don’t like being repotted perhaps I should have gone even bigger. Marlorena’s seems very happy in her pot so there is hope!

  • Definitely there is hope @Nollie - my daphne is growing in the same size pot (10l) and so far it looks alright. I bought  it last autumn, so it overwintered once already, though was still to young to flower the following spring. It has grown significantly during the summer so I guess the ultimate test will be if it will flower next spring. If it does 🤞,  it would mean it’s ok with the growing conditions, if it doesn’t - I will start looking for a nice little spot in the garden for her.
Really looking forward to the flowers as this particular daphne is supposed to very fragrant.
