Tree advice for small garden

alan544alan544 Posts: 36
I live in a East facing terraced house with 4m (width) x 14m (length) garden. I'm just in the process of designing and landscaping it all myself. So far I have 2.5m decking at the house end with 4.5m paving at the rear end, leaving me 7m for garden area including lawn and raised bed on the left side.

I recently removed two cherry trees from the garden as I just didn't like them and my dog kept on eating the cherries. However, I would like to replace them with 1 or 2 different trees but am a little lost with what to get. I thought about a Silver Birch but I think that would just get too high for the garden size.

I don't really want anything that bears fruit as my dog will just eat it.

Any ideas or advice would be hugely appreciated.

Have a look at mailordertrees website or any tree suppliers website for inspiration.
I have several small trees but they all have berries as it means blossom in the spring and a bit of winter interest. Almost all smallish trees have berries, rowans, crab apples, prunus, amalanchier so unless you want a conifer or yew I am at a loss as to suggestions!

Cercis is very nice and doesn't have fruits. I don't recall ever seeing a Magnolia with fruits either.

Magnolia I have one! Blossom lovely but boring the rest of the year so I grow a clematis through it.

Ah, I think a neighbour down the road has a Forest Pansy and I wondered what it was as it looked lovely. I think the shrub route may be the way to go.
