Greenhouse Advice

  • My first greenhouse was one of the proper cheap ones from Norfolk covered with a roll of clear plastic taped together. It was quite effective and lasted many years, but did need running repairs. Gave that away and replaced with a bigger one also from Norfolk which had the thin polycarbonate panels. Was reasonably happy with this and was still in use when I moved. Never had any of the panels blown out or damaged. Now trying to clear the ground for a 10 * 16 from Elite. I will be going for horticultural glass mainly for budget reasons. There is so much choice though, have spent many hours searching!

No - I couldn't stand up in it @pugslovesun, but it's not very deep, so you can reach everything quite easily. My youngest daughter could though- she's not very tall  :D
I only grow a couple of containers of toms [about 5 plants in total]  and I do have to nip the tops out, but it does us fine. If I had more room, I'd have got something a bit bigger, as we certainly can't grow toms outdoors here. I have thought about digging down to make a border to plant into though, which would give me an extra 8 or 10 inches or so  :)

If space is an issue and you have a house/garage or even shed wall you could get one of these -

That is mine.  It is raised of the ground a bit because it is on a slope. I can stand up in it and I’m 5 foot 7.  I chose to go for maximum shelving though. The shelving is just from a blowaway greenhouse.

It was £238 from Halls and has toughened glass and the offer included a free auto vent opener which I haven’t fitted yet.

    I love that Cultivar greenhouse!

I would have bought something of that sort @Hazyb, and I certainly looked at those lean-to types, but the only piece of suitable wall I have is under the bedroom window [new extension] and I weighed up the pros and cons, and decided I'd rather have the smaller greenhouse, and more plants under the window  ;)
It depends on what your requirements are, without doubt.

Edit: here it is. This is me. Incidentally I think I once read that Monty gets his blue workman’s jacket from this site

That site sells an actual tricorn :o

If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

I suspect you have to pay in pieces of eight anyway.

    Arr Arr Cap'n....  :D

I should have said @pugslovesun, I didn't pay that much for mine. I think I looked around [having seen that one] and paid around 130- 150 quid.  :)
