The fern was not doing very well, so I repotted it into a bigger pot....It is still not doing very well. Actually it is going from bad to worse. What am I doing wrong?? Of course I would also like to know the name of this beautiful fern.... Thank you.
You have a super very special fern which looks strong and healthy. Like many plants some ferns stay green all winter...evergreen. Others die down for the winter and will regrow in the spring...deciduous. Your fern is just starting to go to sleep for winter. Next year it will grow lovely fresh fronds.
Not 100% certain here , but your fern strongly resembles my own plant labelled as Dryopteris affinis 'Polydactyla' .
There are numerous species , cultivars and hybrids ; it is almost impossible to ID from a photo alone , but am thinking it's somewhere 'near the mark' so to speak !
Hello everyone, Thank you Paul B3 and thank you Silver surfer. My plant looks like the Dres Dagger.... I am so pleased that at last I know the name. Thank you all for helping.

Thank you for your help, I will plant my lovely fern in the garden this afternoon, anxiously and carefully....
I planted the fern in the garden, it disappeared, but...but...it has come back now. Thank you.
It will die back in winter and re grow in the spring.
It is a super fern...enjoy.
The note this afternoon was to tell you that I did what you suggested and it worked!!
So thank you.
