Can you identify this?

Leaves on this tree are covered in these red spots with growths on the undersides

    Yes it looks like pear rust.  I pick off the affected leaves and burn them as soon as I see the initial orange spots. It doesn’t seem to harm the crop or the tree ... some years are worse than others. Last year our espaliered pear had a lot of it. This year not so much.

    Does the pear rust spread to neighbouring apple trees? My neighbour has it on a pear tree and I'm worrying that as the leaves blow over to our side, that our apple may become infected.

    No it won’t affect apple trees. They have their own set of problems 😉 

    Pear rust is a very interesting condition that only affects two species ... pear and juniper ... in fact it’s lifecycle needs both species in order to complete. Fascinating ... and no need for you to worry 😊
