Anyone know what this is?

I've notices a few of these appear in a part of my garden where we tad removed large conifers, and thoroughly weeded. The ground is all clear apart from these which have popped up. Kinf I'd weird looking things with no root, and the central ball shape has a little hole in the top.
Any ideas?
Thanks Alan

They're a type of fungi called earth stars.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
