Braeburn Apple trees and pollination

I'm considering buying a Braeburn Bare root (M9 rootstock).  I understand they are self pollinating so I don't have to buy 2?  However, also read that a crab apple tree would help pollination of which I have a very large one which gives hundreds of fruit.  Would the crab apple really help or should I get 2 apple trees or if I buy 1 apple and 1 pear tree will that work for pollination?   Apologies for such ignorance, eager to grow and eager to learn!

Crab apples are often used in orchards to assist pollination ... all that’s needed really is for it to be blossoming at the same time as your apple tree and most crabs have a long flowering time. As your crab produces lots of fruit already it sounds as if it attracts lots of pollinating insects so that’s positive too. I think it should be fine. 😊

The crab apple will help, a pear won't. If you want pears then you may need 2 compatible varieties for best fruit. Have a look at what your neighbours might have, there may be suitable cross-pollinators already available.
