    can't remember the name , but the seed heads are like velcro and a nightmare to remove from shaggy dogs.

    I agree Hosta - the only way is to cut them out..
    I think they're a variety of Cirsium and do look quite pretty in flower. There are cultivated varieties

    Aloe Vera. Looks like Burdock to me.
