  Trouble with these is they assume you have edges that are perfect already!
  I need something that I can put a bit of weight behind.

  I'd cut with a half moon, slice the bits off with a swoe, then keep it sharp with the strimmer each time you edge and mow the lawn.

  Hori Hori has a concave blade, at least mine does, which makes it difficult to use along a hard edge such as paving.

  OH uses a strimmer on ours but no path edge there.  However, he used it on our garden in Belgium and that had a sleeper edge round one long, curved side and then stones round another.  Worked well.

  That photo shows the concave/convex shape along the length of the blade well.  That's why I don't find it great for use to cut back grass around paving.  I do find a half moon edger works OK but there is definitely a technique when working along the edge of slabs.  I practiced enough on the 30+ slabs laid into my lawn!

  I use a Stanley Knife each year and only have to do it once. The knife cuts through the roots and the mat just lifts away from the concrete.
