    If you want to fork over and add manure but also want to have bulbs for next spring, you can plant bulbs in pots (a few to a pot depending on the size of pots and bulbs) and then plant them out in spring when they've started to grow.  You can buy them at that stage in spring but it's more expensive and there's less choice.

    Bulbs can go in now as soon as you've forked over the soil to loosen it and mix in some manure but before the final raking and mulching.

    Garden cdentres and nurseries are overflowing with healthy new plants in spring, especially for the long Easter weekend and by then any bulbs will be showing and you can just trowel in the new plants between them.
