Climbing roses

Hi

Can you please give me advice on how much I can prune my climbing roses back before we approach winter?  It has grown so much that I don't want strong winds collapsing the trellis.

It's tricky to get above the roses due to height but I do have telescopic secateurs to reach up.

    Take each shoot back by about half if you are not going to be tying any in. Prune to an outward facing bud. In March prune back to a previous bud, this removes anything which may have been damaged by frost overwinter and keeps the rose in better shape.

    Because your stems are growing straight up the side of your trellis will only getting flowers at the top.
    Just been looking at some really helpful videos on YouTube by Paul Zimmerman that covers training and pruning.
