Bit of a tricky one. Any chance of a picture from the side?
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
  • I always thought they were angle shade moth caterpillars, they come in green and orange-brown colours.

I could be mistaken though and happy to be corrected.

  • It does indeed look like an Angle Shades. The caterpillars are evidently very variable.

Not sure @Victoria Sponge the angle shades caterpillars look less 'defined' in their markings, and chunkier [correct term  ;) ] but I'm not any kind of expert either  :D

We certainly have those in the garden though, but I usually only see them when they're green.

I have the chunky brown form, I saw one the other day on an aster and assumed it was an angle shade. I just read they over winter which would explain why I often see them on later flowers.

Just checked the link provided by Alan Clark and Hexagon's specimen seems to have the side stripe too...
