Plants for shade

hi is there a plant that is like a salvia that can grow in shade. The plant will get 5 or 6 hours of sun a day and the soil is quite rich.

I’ve a salvia purple queen getting about that amount of sun per day, on a north west facing plot in newly laid compost and its doing fine.

But if you’re not convinced, have a look at the plants for shade/long acre plants website. They are specialist in shade lovers for any site and have a plant finder for different categories of shade, which is really useful. 5-6 hours isn't enough for sun-loving plants to perform to their best but it's probably too much for shade lovers. Usually, full sun is defined as 6+ hours of sun. I would look for plants that can tolerate a wider range of positions, possibly something for partial shade/full sun or shade/partial shade.

Five to six hours of sun is usually enough to grow many perennials like Sanguisorbas, Campanulas, Monardas, Tradescantia Andersoniana and Penstemons. All reasonably long flowering, and do well in rich soils.

What's causing the shade? That has a bearing on what you plant too.

You'll need to prep the area well, but some, or all, of the plants @Borderline mentions, should be ok. Knapweeds would probably be fine as well, and good old hardy geraniums. Jap anemones also, once you get them well established. I have Sedums which get less sun than that - flowering well.
