My grass is looking the worse for wear. What can I do?

I have a back garden about fifty feet by fifty feet and its looking very brown after all the hot weather we've had especially as my wife objects to it being watered. Is there anything I can do to bring it back to life rather than digging it up and turfing or seeding it?

Wait for rain.  The grass will grow back.

When it does, you could use a scarifier to remove all the dead thatch to allow light, air and water to get to the grass and its roots but only when it's growing well again.

You was right, rain it has and grow it most certainly is.  Now all I have to do is persuade the wife she needs exercise more than I do.

Or just swap lawn mowing for one or two of her regular jobs around the house?
