Apple tree problem

Afternoon  all
Im posting this for my cousin so don’t have any details but can get answers to questions given a bit of time!

Any ideas please on what is bothering her apple tree? She is in Nth Devon if that has any importance!

  • Not sure what is causing this. Looks a bit scary. Difficult to tell from the photo, but I'll assume its a young tree. If it was mine I would carefully remove the turf to about a 1 metre diameter and fill the space left with multi purpose compost. I would then drench the foliage with a liquid seaweed feed. When the leaves fall I would gather them up and bin or burn them. I like to winter wash my fruit trees with a garlic/veg oil/water mix late November and again in late February/early March. Feed again around the roots in early Spring and keep well watered for the first couple of years until established. Perhaps someone else can offer a better 'fix' but I'm organic and am truly clueless when it comes to chemicals. I hope this helps. Good luck.
