Any way to stop Hazels producing hazelnuts?

The teeth marks around the hole is the clue to which rodent made it. From https://www.discoverwildlife.com/how-to/identify-wildlife/how-to-identify-wildlife-feeding-signs/

Common dormice leave a smooth, round hole in the side of the nut, with tooth marks running around the inside of the hole.
Wood mice leave tooth marks on the surface of the nut and across the edge of the hole. The hole may be either circular or ragged in shape.
Bank voles create a round hole with tooth marks across the edge, but not on the surface of the nut.

Have you considered using one of those ultrasonic devices? I have a couple to stop the neighbourhood cats from leaving their mess in my garden. I also have a pair of squirrels I regularly see running along the top of my fence. Can't be certain it works for squirrels though.

I found that just getting in quick is the key. Get there before the squirrels. So I check if there are shells on the ground and if the tips of the nuts are turning brown. If so I know it's time to begin harvest.
