unidentified self-seeded tomato. Can I propagate it?

B3B3 Posts: 27,505
A tomato plant turned up in a large container and has produced really good tomatoes. I have no idea what variety but they are medium-sized very shiny and have a firm, almost chewy texture. And parent would have been a supermarket named variety.
As I have little hope of identifying it, I  will try to save some seeds.
Two questions:
Do I sow the seeds fresh?
Is it possible to take cuttings?
Thanks.

I'd do neither at this time of year. Save the seed and sow next spring

@Dovefromabove, on the link, they say 'ripe', but the tomatoes in the man's hand don't look fully ripe to me. Do you think I should wait until they're very red and squishy?

I squished some tomatoes we'd bought in  a market in Greece and brought the seeds home and they came up pretty much as I remembered them.

Just don't add Radox [other bath foams/salts are available] - makes your salad a bit foamy....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
