Is it too late for taking hydrangea cuttings?

I've found a perfect spot for a few more hydrangeas and would like to do some cuttings... I still have plenty of soft growth on one I planted earlier this year and wondered if I could take cuttings from it now? I understand they root fairly quickly, so if I'm quick can I cut, root and get in the ground before the cold weather hits and would they then be hardy enough to make it through the Winter? Or am I better off waiting for Spring?

    No that’s too quick even for hydrangeas. 

    I would put some cuttings in a jar of water until they develop roots them pot them up and overwinter them in a cool greenhouse or cold frame. Pot them on next spring and summer (pinching out growing tips so it develops into a nice bushy plant) and plant out ... if big enough... next autumn. 

    Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

    I'd agree with @Dovefromabove. No matter how quickly any plant takes, it wouldn't be wise to overwinter a young cutting in the ground. 
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
